Cubbon Park

Description

The Cubbon Park is located behind the High Court of Karnataka, Sampangi Rama Nagar, Bengaluru. It is a landmark ‘lung’ area of the Bengaluru city, located within the heart of the city in the Central Administrative Area. This park is officially known as Sri Chamarajendra Park.

History

The Cubbon Park has a history of over 100 years, been established in the year 1870 under the acting commissioner of Mysore i.e. Sir John Meade. Thus it was initially named as “Meade’s Park” and later changed to Cubbon Park In the year 1927, it was officially renamed as “Sri Chamarajendra Park”. It was originally built in an area of 100 acres which was expanded further in the following years.

Important Information

  • As it is a public park, it remains open all the time, but due to the presence of various Governmental Buildings nearby, it has been declared a quiet zone between 5 AM to 8 AM.
  • It has multiple gates joined by the motorable roads, but it only allows the entry of light vehicles.

  • Lush Greenery welcomes the visitors entering the Cubbon park through any of the entry gates. It possesses many indigenous as well as exotic plants varieties. The park has about 68 category and 96 species with a total of around 6000 plants.

  • There is a very famous Art Gallery named “Galerie De’Arts” where ate art collectors can buy the works which they like and keep them as the remembrance of the journey.
